Have you ever longed to be the one at a dance – or on stage - hoppin’ and leppin’ and doing amazingly tricky things with your feet? Fulfill the dream and come to this workshop with Jo Creswell. There will be an emphasis on the step dances of Cape Breton (think tap dance crossed with Riverdance) but once you’ve learned the steps you can use them in Scottish or Irish set dancing, bush dances or solo dancing. Jo, who is also performing at the festival in the group Cresswell Green, is a highly regarded teacher of step dances who runs classes in Canberra and at festivals around the country

Jo regrets that she cannot conduct this workshop due to an ankle injury. As the program book has been printed this workshop will still be listed, however refer to the latest timetable on this website and note the amended times of adjacent dance workshops

Western swing music is a subgenre of American country music that originated in the late 1920s in the west and south of the US among the Western string bands. So grab a partner and swing on down to the Brolga and learn some two-steps, jive and other fancy moves with the Free Rangers and tutor
Phillipa Reville

Dance displays and social dances

In addition to the comprehensive program of dance workshops, there will be a number of displays including a spectacular 40 min show of Flamenco music and dance by Flamenco Ruido. There will also be quite a lot of indigeneous dancing in the Jerra Ngia presentation. The dance groups and tutors will put on short displays at the start of many workshops.

There will also be plenty of opportunity to do some social dancing with a Bush Dance, Scottish Ceilidh, a Contra Dance and two Tango Social dances scheduled.

So, there is bound to be something for every dance enthusiast. Or if you simply feel like a little exercise after hours of sitting watching the performers in the other venues, why not chasse on down to the Brolga venue.
