Contra Dance workshop with Pastrami On Ryebuck

Contras evolved in New England, USA, from the old longways English dances. They use a repeating set of movements, each time through the dance, as you and your partner meet a new couple. The dances are lots of fun, and very forgiving! With Australia’s pre-eminent contra dance band, Pastrami On Ryebuck, and the tutorship of Australia’s “Queen of Contra”, Julie Bishop, they will have you enjoying this very social dance in no time.

Dance displays and social dances In addition to the comprehensive program of dance workshops, there will be a number of displays including a spectacular 40 min show of Flamenco music and dance by Flamenco Ruido. There will also be quite a lot of indigeneous dancing in the Jerra Ngia presentation. The dance groups and tutors will put on short displays at the start of many workshops. There will also be plenty of opportunity to do some social dancing with a Bush Dance, Scottish Ceilidh, a Contra Dance and two Tango Social dances scheduled. So, there is bound to be something for every dance enthusiast. Or if you simply feel like a little exercise after hours of sitting watching the performers in the other venues, why not chasse on down to the Brolga venue.
