page updated 6th February, 2010 A Night In Cobargo in 1897 Presented by Fiona Firth (and a cast of many) Friday 8.00pm Gulaga
Cobargo in the 1890s was a bustling, go ahead town. The residents knew how to have a good time and created their own entertainments. They dressed up in their finest clothes and went along to the School of Arts hall to enjoy songs and recitations by local singers and actors. The chairs were then moved to the sides and everyone danced the night away. Come along an help recreate 'A Night Out in Cobargo, 1890s style' with singing and dancing and maybe a little, or a lot, of drama.

Tribute To Woody Guthrie – The Silver StringsSunday 11.30am Yuin
Woody Guthrie really needs no introduction for folk audiences. It was Guthrie who, in the 1930s & 1940s, transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle for social protest and observation that paved the way for a host of social songwriters since. The Silver Strings (Bob Hart, Eric Johns, Sandy Gibney) will perform a concert featuring Woody Guthrie songs as well as information about the great man's life, times and works. Obviously, not all of his songs can be done in one hour, but the well known and best loved ones will be featured. An information sheet with choruses printed will be provided and the audience will be able to join in.
Blues Concert

Political Soapbox: Songs of Satire and Sedition (Dedicated to Alistair Hulett)
![]() Sunday 1.00pm Mumbulla
This has become a regular favourite at the Cobargo Folk Festival. With participants like The Lurkers, Shortis and Simpson, John Dengate, the Canberra Union Voices, Glover and Sorrensen, and a number of other guests given the stage and a theme loosely based around politics, a concert both entertaining and controversial is guaranteed. With the sudden and untimely death of Alistair Hulett only a couple of weeks ago, we have been unable to organise a full tribute concert but dedicate this concert to the great 'revolutionary socialist' and singer-songwriter of classic songs for the working class. Alistair would be well known to most Australian folkies as he lived in and toured Australia often, his last tour being only a few months ago with performances at Folk in the Foothills (Jamberoo) and Majors Creek Folk Festival. He performed at the Cobargo Folk Festival in 2005. We hope to have a few of Alistair's songs sung at this concert.
